Orange Sunset Sea Fan on Zanzibar Reef Wall

Vibrant orange light from the setting sun penetrates the water column, illuminating a large sea fan that bends sharply against a strong current. The fan's delicate, lace-like skeleton stretches vertically along a dark volcanic reef overhang, its texture rendered in sharp relief by the low-angle rays. Tiny suspended particles glitter throughout the water, creating a field of scattered points of light that define the depth between the foreground fan and the receding background. The monsoon season brings a density to the water that softens distant shapes while keeping the immediate subject crisp. Shadows from the overhang fall across the reef floor, against the bright illumination on the fan's surface. A cluster of small crustaceans rests on the lower edge of the fan, visible against the dark stone.
