Trumpetfish Hiding Beside Sea Fan in Zanzibar Shallows in beneath a reef ledge in tropical shallows near Zanzibar

Trumpetfish Hiding Beside Sea Fan in Zanzibar Shallows

by Grant Wooten

Sunlight falls through the clear tropical water, illuminating a slender trumpetfish hovering vertically against the textured surface of a sea fan. The fish’s pale, elongated body blends seamlessly with the coral’s branching fingers, creating a natural camouflage within the reef ledge. Tiny suspended particles glitter in the beam of reflected light, drifting slowly through the wet season water. The sea fan displays a soft, muted palette of browns and oranges, against the fish’s subtle gray tones. Fine details of the coral’s porous surface catch the light, while the background fades into the deep blue of the shallows. One shadow stretches beneath the fish, anchoring it to the coral structure.
