Coral Polyp Tentacles Night Zanzibar Reef in beside a volcanic reef overhang near Zanzibar

Coral Polyp Tentacles Night Zanzibar Reef

by Marcia Ray

Silvery light falls through the monsoon haze, illuminating the delicate, translucent tentacles of a single coral polyp. The creature anchors itself against the rough, dark volcanic rock of a reef overhang. Fine plankton particles float in the water, creating a soft, suspended veil that blurs the background into a deep, indistinct void. Each tentacle extends outward, showing the faint illumination with a subtle, pearlescent sheen. The texture of the polyp contrasts sharply with the jagged, porous surface of the volcanic stone beneath it. At the very edge of the frame, a tiny bubble rests on the base of the coral structure.
