Elephant Seal Rookery in Goa Reed Bed

Wet, dark gray skin of massive elephant seals dominates the foreground, their bodies resting on a muddy beach edge where tall, slender reeds emerge from the damp earth. Tiny raindrops bead on the rough hide and slide down the thick folds of neck and shoulder. The reeds stand in clusters, their green and brown stalks swaying slightly against the gray sky. Bright midmorning light reflects off the shallow water pooling between the seals, creating patches of shimmering white that cut through the cool, muted tones of the drizzle. The ground is slick with water, mirroring the overcast sky above. One seal rests its head on a clump of mud, its wet fur clumping in heavy strands near the water's edge.
