Elephant Calf in Twilight Mud

Indigo twilight washes the reed bed edge where a young elephant calf stands knee-deep in dark, churned mud. Reflected light from the water surface glimmers softly against the calf's wrinkled grey skin, highlighting the wet texture of its flanks and the coarse hairs on its back. Late autumn reeds rise vertically in the background, their dried tops bent slightly under the weight of a brief sun shower. Water droplets rest on the calf's ears and trunk, catching the dim ambient glow. The animal's front foot presses into the thick sludge, creating a small ripple that distorts the reflection of the sky. One reed stem leans forward, its tip just touching the wet earth near the calf's flank.
