Moose at Reed Bed Edge Before Rain in at the edge of a reed bed in Yunnan

Moose at Reed Bed Edge Before Rain

by Dana Carney

Low angles reveal the massive, dark form of a moose standing at the boundary of a dense reed bed in Yunnan. Thick, wet stalks of reed rise to meet the animal's lower legs, their green and brown hues muted by the heavy, overcast sky. Dramatic, slate-gray clouds press low against the horizon, signaling the imminent arrival of rain. The ground beneath the moose is a mix of damp earth and loose scree, scattered with small, gray stones that glisten slightly in the soft, diffused dawn light. The animal's coarse fur absorbs the flat illumination, creating deep shadows along its flanks and legs. one drop of moisture hangs from the tip of a nearby reed, poised to fall onto the rocky surface below.
