Elephant Herd Crossing Mud Flats at Dusk Twilight
Heavy rain sheets down across a wind-scoured ridge in New South Wales, turning the ground into a slick, dark expanse of mud. Three elephants move in a loose line, their gray hides glistening with moisture and reflecting the faint, cool light of twilight. Deep shadows swallow the foreground, while a sharp rim of silver light catches the curved spines and ears of the leading animal, separating it from the gloom. Behind the herd, a network of deep, wet tracks cuts into the soft earth, recording their path through the steady downpour. The air is thick with falling water droplets that blur the background, leaving only the solid forms of the animals and the churned mud in focus. at the edge is a single, dark hoof print filled with rainwater, sitting at the edge of the frame.
