Sperm Whale Tail Diving Near Sydney

Sunlight fractures into vertical shafts of electric blue, illuminating the massive, scarred flank of a sperm whale tail as it lifts from the surface. The fluke cuts through the water, pushing a curtain of suspended particles that glitter like suspended dust motes in the bright beams. Deep indigo shadows pool beneath the arching tail, against the bright, churning white foam at the water's edge. Tiny specks of organic matter float in the foreground, caught in the stillness of the dive. The texture of the whale's skin appears rough and leathery, marked by decades of ocean life, while the water around the tail ripples with a heavy, liquid weight.
