Ocean Sunfish Twilight Shadow Sydney Drop-off in beside a volcanic drop-off near Sydney

Ocean Sunfish Twilight Shadow Sydney Drop-off

by Lauren Banks

A massive ocean sunfish drifts horizontally near the water's surface, its pale, flat body outlined by a thin rim of fading twilight light. Behind the fish, a steep volcanic drop-off plunges into darkness, marking the edge of the Sydney coastline in early autumn. Suspended particles glitter like scattered diamonds throughout the deep shadow of the water column, catching the last ambient glow. The fish's rough, textured skin contrasts with the smooth, dark void of the drop-off. Tiny bubbles rest on the water's surface above the creature's back, while the deep blue fades into black at the bottom of the frame.
