Sailfish Slash Through Kelp in Sydney

by Tyler Mueller

Sunlight pierces the water in flat, vertical beams, illuminating a dense forest of kelp fronds swaying near the surface. A sailfish cuts horizontally through the frame, its silver body reflecting the harsh noon glare as it slashes a bait ball. Tiny plankton particles hang in the water, creating a soft haze that obscures the background depth. The kelp stalks rise from below, their brown and green textures against the fish's smooth scales. Bubbles trail from the prey, floating upward toward the bright surface. The fish's long dorsal fin stands rigid against the drifting weight of the water. A cluster of silver baitfish scatters in a tight spiral near the kelp base.
