Jawfish Incubating Eggs in Portugal Sea

Bright midmorning sunlight falls through the water column, illuminating a small jawfish hovering just above the sandy seabed in Portuguese coastal waters. The fish holds a cluster of pale, translucent eggs within its open mouth, its gills pulsing rhythmically against the current. Fine suspended particles glitter like scattered diamonds in the reflected light, creating a field of suspended dust around the creature. The seabed shows scattered pebbles and sparse late autumn marine vegetation swaying gently. Shadows fall softly beneath the fish, grounding it in the shallow depth. One grain of sand rests on the fish's lower jaw, catching the light.
