Pink Coral Spawn Under Zanzibar Reef Ledge

by Myles Caldwell

Clouds of vibrant pink eggs rise in thick plumes from the crevices of a dark coral formation, suspended in water so transparent that individual grains of sand drift like snow. Sunlight penetrates the clear surface, creating a dappled pattern of bright gold and deep azure across the seabed. The water remains unusually still, disturbed only by slow, rolling ripples from the surface above. Dark shadows rest on the underside of the reef ledge, providing a stark backdrop for the glowing reproductive clouds. Tiny bubbles rest on the outer edges of the egg masses, catching the light. One grain of white sand rests on a protruding coral tip in the foreground, anchoring the scale of the underwater event.
