Horseshoe Crab Spawning on Sydney Beach

Steel-blue twilight washes over the wet sand of Manly beach, where a solitary horseshoe crab anchors itself against the gentle tide. The creature's dark, domed carapace reflects the faint ambient glow, against the pale, wet grains clinging to its legs. Tiny suspended particles glitter in the shallow water column, catching the residual light like scattered diamonds. The shoreline stretches into the distance, marked by the soft foam of receding waves. One ripple distorts the reflection of the crab's shell on the slick surface, revealing the texture of the sand beneath the thin layer of water. The scene holds a quiet, drifting stillness as the creature moves slowly in the cooling air.
