Barreleye Fish Transparent Head Deep Sea Near Busan

by Robyn Strickland

Reflected light falls through exceptionally clear water to illuminate a barreleye fish hovering in the deep sea near Busan. The fish's head is a transparent dome, revealing internal green tubular eyes pointing upward within the gelatinous tissue. Late spring water conditions allow visibility of the creature's slender amber body and delicate fins against a backdrop of dark, indistinct depths. Slow-moving surface ripples create shifting patterns of brightness on the fish's translucent skin. The shallow depth of field blurs the background into soft gradients of blue and black, isolating the subject. A faint shadow of the fish's internal organs rests against the clear dome's lower curve.
