Cold moonlight falls through the crystal-clear water near Cairns, illuminating a mottled moray eel as it extends its head from a dark reef crevice. The eel's textured scales shimmer with silver and olive tones against the deep indigo background. Slow-moving surface ripples distort the light above, casting shifting patterns across the coral formations. The water remains exceptionally still, preserving every detail of the predator's open mouth and watchful eye. Fine grains of sand settle on the reef floor nearby, undisturbed by the creature's movement. A faint reflection of the moon glimmers on a nearby rock face, anchoring the scene in the predawn darkness.
