Sunset Light Through Kelp Forest Canopy in along a seagrass channel near the coast near Jagalchi, Busan

Sunset Light Through Kelp Forest Canopy

by Kayla McBride

Golden orange beams pierce the surface, cutting through a dense canopy of kelp fronds that sway gently above. The water holds a soft haze of plankton, diffusing the low-angle sunlight into vertical columns of warm light. Long, ribbon-like leaves stretch upward from the depths, their surfaces reflecting the amber glow of the early autumn sunset. In the foreground, seagrass blades line the channel floor, creating a textured green carpet that contrasts with the floating kelp. The layers of vegetation recede into the distance, fading into a muted blue-gray where the water meets the horizon. A cluster of translucent kelp tips catches the final rays, glowing like stained glass against the darker water below.
