Seal Basking on Rocky Shore at Sunset

by Ainsley Guthrie

Rich amber light spills across the wet, dark basalt rocks where a harbor seal rests. The animal's spotted coat glistens under the low-hanging sun, catching the golden glow that defines the midnight sun season in Reykjavik. Below the rocky ledge, exceptionally clear water reveals the reef edge, its surface disturbed only by slow, heavy ripples. The seal lies motionless, its body pressed against the rough stone, while droplets of water slide from its whiskers. The horizon blurs into a soft gradient of orange and deep blue, marking the boundary between day and night. One wet rock in the foreground reflects the amber sky.
