Amber Sunset Elephant Seal Rookery Cape Town

Rich amber light washes over a dense cluster of massive elephant seals resting on a wind-scoured ridge near Observatory in Cape Town. The early summer sun hangs low, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the wet, dark sand and the thick, wrinkled hides of the animals. Sea haze softens the distant horizon, blurring the line where the ocean meets the sky. Each seal occupies a specific space, their bodies forming a textured landscape of gray and brown tones against the glowing sand. The foreground reveals deep creases in the skin of a resting male, while the background fades into the warm, hazy glow of the approaching dusk.
