Minke Whale Feeding in Autumn Seagrass Meadow

Copper-toned light falls through the water, illuminating a minke whale as it feeds above a dense seagrass meadow off the coast of Portugal. The animal's sleek, dark gray skin contrasts with the golden-green blades of eelgrass swaying gently below. A thick haze of plankton softens the distant background, blurring the line between the meadow and the open water. The horizon line glows with the fading light of late autumn dusk, wrapping the submerged scene in a warm, luminous haze. From behind, the whale's broad back and dorsal fin cut through the suspended particles, its movement stirring the water into a swirling cloud of sediment and organic matter. at the edge is the way the fading light catches the wet edge of the whale's tail as it begins to descend.
