Blue Whale Surfaces Near Catalonian Volcanic Drop-off

by Marie Snider

Misty dawn light spills over the deep blue water where a massive blue whale breaks the surface beside a steep volcanic drop-off. The animal exhales a tall, translucent spout that catches the softening morning glow. Slow-moving ripples spread across the exceptionally clear water, revealing the texture of the whale's wet skin and the dark, jagged rock face rising beneath the waves. Late spring air hangs heavy in the mist, softening the horizon line where the sea meets the sky. The low angle view emphasizes the scale of the creature against the ancient stone. A final ripple distorts the reflection of the spout on the dark water surface.
