Heron Stalking Shallows Day Night Sky Split in beside a tidal inlet near Philadelphia

Heron Stalking Shallows Day Night Sky Split

by Brad Hubbard

Rain streaks the air as a Great Blue Heron stands motionless in the shallow tidal inlet near Philadelphia. The bird appears as a dark silhouette against a sky that violently divides: the left side glows with midday sun filtering through wet leaves, while the right side plunges into a star-filled night. Raindrops catch the light, creating sharp silver lines that cut across the water's surface. The heron's long neck curves slightly, frozen in alert tension. Behind the bird, the water reflects both the bright daylight and the deep indigo of the stars, merging two impossible times into a single still moment. One raindrop hangs suspended on the tip of the heron's beak.
