Kingfisher Diving with Fish in Evening Rain

Vibrant blue feathers flash against the dark, rain-slicked surface of a muddy game trail pond. A kingfisher bursts upward, wings spread wide, clutching a small silver fish in its beak. Steady rain creates concentric ripples that distort the reflection of the twilight sky. The water glows with a cool, deep blue hue from the last light of evening, against the bird's electric plumage. Droplets freeze in mid-air around the splash zone, catching the dim reflected light. Mud lines the edge of the pool, dark and heavy from the dry season rain. The bird's sharp yellow beak holds the struggling fish tight as it clears the water's surface. One drop rolls down the wing's leading edge.
