Silhouette of Heron in Glacial Stream
by Bill Trevino
A dark, vertical silhouette of a heron stands motionless in the shallow, turbulent water of a glacial stream. The bird's long neck curves forward in a tense, predatory arc against the dim, cool blue light of the post-sunset sky. Behind the figure, the water churns with white foam where the current meets submerged stones, creating a stark contrast between the stillness of the bird and the movement of the stream. Humid air hangs low over the water, softening the distant banks into blurred shapes of grey and muted green. The shallow depth of field dissolves the background into a wash of indistinct textures, leaving only the sharp, jagged outline of the heron's beak and the wet, rippled surface of the water in the immediate foreground. One droplet rests on the tip of the beak, catching the last faint glow of the sky.
