Heron Stalking in Reno Shallows After Sunrise

Deep shadows cloak the shallow water near Reno while a sharp rim of pale morning light outlines the heron's silhouette. The bird stands tall in the murky shallows, its long legs partially submerged in the cool water. Late summer grasses fringe the bank, their tips catching the first direct sunbeams against the clear blue sky above. The perspective stays low to the ground, showing the bird's height against the horizon. Feathers along the neck appear almost black, while the water reflects the stark contrast between the dark foreground and the bright, cloudless sky. One reflection of the bird's beak breaks the water's surface near the reeds.
