Silhouetted Harpy Eagle at Twilight Inlet in beside a tidal inlet near Naypyidaw

Silhouetted Harpy Eagle at Twilight Inlet

by Sienna Welch

The deep indigo of the evening sky frames a massive harpy eagle standing motionless beside a tidal inlet. The bird appears as a stark black silhouette, its powerful wings folded tight against a body heavy with feathers. Low ground fog pools in the shallow water and along the muddy banks, obscuring the base of the surrounding vegetation. The last blue light of the wet season evening creates a soft, diffused glow behind the subject, separating the dark form from the hazy background. Shallow depth of field blurs the distant reeds into soft vertical strokes of green and grey, while the eagle remains sharply defined against the dimming sky. Its talons grip a submerged root, anchoring the predator in the stillness of the approaching night.
