Full Moon Over Tidal Mudflats with Solitary Heron
A pale full moon hangs high above wet, cracked mudflats near Kanazawa in early autumn. A sweeping beam of lighthouse light cuts through the cold, dry night air, illuminating the textured, glistening surface of the exposed tide. A solitary heron stands motionless in the shallow water, its long legs and neck silhouetted against the bright, moving arc of light. The beam shifts slowly across the dark, rippling mud, revealing patches of salt and small shells. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the uneven ground, defining the depth of the tidal channels. The white curve of the bird's chest catches the edge of the light before the beam sweeps away, leaving the heron in deep shadow against the dark water. One reflection of the moon fractures on the wet surface near the bird's feet.
