Moonlight on Tidal Mudflats with Heron in above a glacial stream near Pietermaritzburg

Moonlight on Tidal Mudflats with Heron

by Armando Hardin

Silver light floods the dark expanse of tidal mudflats, turning wet clay into a mirror for the full moon hanging high above. A solitary heron stands motionless in the shallow water, its long neck poised in alert tension against the vast night. The low angle emphasizes the bird's height against the expansive sky, where not a cloud obscures the luminous orb. Shadows stretch across the textured mud, revealing cracks and ripples in the surface. The heron's grey feathers catch the pale glow, creating a stark contrast with the deep indigo of the surrounding landscape. A sharp reflection of the moon breaks across the water near the bird's legs.
