Soft, diffused morning light falls through the humid air, illuminating a single hummingbird feather in extreme close-up. The vane displays a mosaic of shifting greens and blues that ripple like oil on water, created by microscopic structures rather than pigment. Tiny barbs interlock tightly, their edges sharp against the blurred background of a damp, gray tidal inlet. Water droplets rest on the feather's base, catching the light in perfect spheres. The texture is velvety yet rigid, suggesting the bird's alert posture. A faint reflection of the overcast sky glimmers in the wet surface, while the surrounding mist remains suspended in the stillness of the late morning.
