Rusting Gurneys in Thai Hospital Corridor in along a ward corridor with broken glass and falling plaster in Thailand

Rusting Gurneys in Thai Hospital Corridor

by Damon Dunn

Soft tungsten light spills across a long ward corridor inside a Thai military hospital, illuminating rows of rusted metal gurneys lined against peeling white walls. Broken glass shards scatter across the smooth concrete floor, catching faint glimmers of the overhead glow. Patches of plaster hang loosely from the ceiling, suspended by thin threads of moisture from the monsoon season. The air remains still, yet the dampness rests on the oxidized surfaces of the medical equipment. Green vines creep through a shattered window at the far end, their leaves pressing against the frame. The leading lines of the corridor guide toward the distant, dark doorway where the rust on the gurney wheels deepens into a textured orange against the cool grey floor.
