Vine Choked Planetarium Dome Ruin in Rain in along a vine-choked corridor near Lanzhou

Vine Choked Planetarium Dome Ruin in Rain

by Shelby Clark

Green vines drape over the rusted metal ribs of a collapsed planetarium dome, reclaiming the structure in midsummer. Soft, diffused light from the overcast sky after rain illuminates the wet, grey concrete floor where puddles reflect the broken ceiling. Heavy drizzle creates a fine mist around the intact projection equipment, now covered in moss and grime. Thick tendrils of ivy wrap around the curved steel framework, bridging gaps where the roof once stood. Water drips steadily from the frayed edges of the canopy, falling across the mossy floor. One droplet rests on the tip of a jagged metal beam before landing in the shallow water below.
