Abandoned Hospital Corridors in Monsoon Night

by Lucy Whitehead

Peeling white paint flakes from cracked concrete walls inside a derelict hospital corridor, revealing gray plaster beneath. Silvery winter light falls through shattered window frames, illuminating dust suspended in the heavy monsoon air. Topped stone columns lie fractured on the ground outside, surrounded by dense green nettles that have invaded the structure. The sky above remains a uniform sheet of heavy overcast gray, casting a flat, diffuse glow across the wet pavement. Layers of depth recede into the dark distance where doorways disappear into shadow. One crack runs along the base of a fallen column, filled with rainwater reflecting the pale sky.
