Cuban Hotel Corridor Sunset Ruin in through a shattered institutional hallway with debris underfoot in Cuba

Cuban Hotel Corridor Sunset Ruin

by Debra Washington

Warm amber light from the setting sun pools across the wet floor tiles of a shattered institutional hallway in Cuba. Thick drifts of fallen plaster mound beside peeling paint and scattered debris, partially obscuring the path where the floor remains visible. Condensation beads on the few remaining glass panes in the doorways, marking the humid rainy season. The light reflects off damp surfaces, casting distorted shapes that stretch along the walls toward the darkened end of the corridor. Layers of depth recede as the ceiling collapses further away, leaving exposed concrete beneath the flaking layers. One shard of glass at the base of a wall catches the fading glow, glinting sharply against the dull gray dust.
