Manatee Drifting in Cape Town Twilight Water

Cool indigo light fills the water around a large manatee gliding along a kelp-fringed shelf near Cape Town. The animal's gray skin, marked by small barnacles and patches of algae, rests against the darkening blue. Long strands of dark green kelp hang from the shelf, framing the creature as it moves through the suspended particles that glitter in the water column. A low angle view places the observer beneath the subject, revealing the scale of the marine mammal against the fading sky above. Fine texture on the manatee's back catches the last faint light filtering down, while floating debris drifts at the edge of the frame.
