Nautilus Gliding Over Seagrass in Cape Town Waters

Golden afternoon light fractures into shifting caustic networks across the shell of a chambered nautilus. The creature floats suspended in deep blue water, its spiral pattern against the vibrant green blades of the seagrass meadow below. Tiny suspended particles glitter in the current, catching the sun as they drift past the shell's ridges. Layers of depth recede into the distance, where the water darkens to a rich indigo. The nautilus remains perfectly still, its tentacles tucked close to its body. A sharp shadow falls across the seagrass directly beneath the floating shell, anchoring the subject to the seabed.
