Blue Anemones in Camps Bay Tide Pool
by Tina Bolton
Midsummer sunlight floods a shallow tide pool along the seagrass channel near Camps Bay, Cape Town, illuminating clusters of anemones with translucent, electric-blue tentacles. The water holds a fine plankton haze that softens the distant rocky shoreline, creating a layer of suspended blue dust against the clear sky. Rough, dark volcanic rocks frame the pool, their wet surfaces reflecting the harsh midday glare. The anemones rest motionless on the sandy bottom, their colors shifting from deep indigo at the base to pale cyan at the tips. Fine strands of green seagrass drift lazily in the current near the edge. The shallow depth of field blurs the background rocks into soft shapes, keeping the focus tight on the delicate, swaying polyps in the foreground. One shadow falls across the sand, marking the edge of a nearby stone.
