Forsaken Asylum Corridor in Corsica in along a ward corridor with broken glass and falling plaster in Corsica

Forsaken Asylum Corridor in Corsica

by Carolyn Fuller

Broad afternoon light floods the long ward corridor, bouncing off pale, peeling walls that have lost their original paint. Heavy wooden doors hang open on both sides, revealing dark, empty rooms beyond. Debris from falling plaster litters the tiled floor, mixing with shards of broken glass that catch the warm glow from above. A large window frame in the foreground creates a natural border, framing the decay within. Green vines creep up the exterior wall visible through the open doorways, their leaves vibrant against the grey stone. The monsoon season has left damp patches on the floor, darkening the stone where the light does not reach. One shard of glass reflects the sky, sharp and clear against the dull floor.
