Silhouetted Courthouse Ruins Overrun by Brambles

by Corey Ward

Pale dawn light bleeds across the cracked limestone facade of a crumbling courthouse annex near Palermo, casting the structure into a stark, dark silhouette against the brightening sky. Thick, thorny brambles spill over the shattered archways, their dark green leaves catching the first rays of the rising sun. Toppled stone columns lie scattered in the tall, dry nettles that surround the foundation, their weathered surfaces rough and pitted with age. The wind stirs the vines within the empty, roofless rooms, creating a visible ripple through the vegetation. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the broken floor tiles, highlighting the jagged edges of fallen masonry and the tangled, chaotic growth reclaiming the stone. One patch of golden light illuminates the dust motes dancing above a fractured pillar base.
