Abandoned Prison Corridor Sunlight Stripes in along a ward corridor with broken glass and falling plaster near Urumqi

Abandoned Prison Corridor Sunlight Stripes

by Michele Bowers

Pale walls in an Urumqi prison ward reflect soft morning light, creating a quiet glow across the floor. Rectangular bars of hard afternoon sun stretch along the corridor, cutting through the dust. Broken glass shards scatter near the base of the walls, catching the light with sharp edges. Plaster flakes hang loosely from the ceiling, waiting to fall. The corridor recedes into layers of depth, where shadows lengthen against the peeling paint. One fragment of glass rests on the dusty floor, reflecting the pale wall above it.
