Dragonfly on Reed in Veraval Morning Mist

by Max Castaneda

Low golden sunlight breaks through dramatic, heavy clouds hovering over the horizon haze near Veraval. A slender reed rises from the glassy, still pond water, its surface reflecting the moody sky. Perched precariously on the reed tip is a dragonfly with iridescent wings folded tight, its segmented body rigid and alert. The wet season air hangs visible in the soft haze that blurs the distant shoreline. Dark green reeds cluster around the water's edge, their stalks wet and glistening. The insect’s large compound eyes catch the dim morning light, creating sharp, bright highlights against its dark thorax. One shadow stretches from the reed base across the smooth, dark water toward the foreground.
