Quetzal in New Zealand Fog Before Dawn

Cool midsummer light strikes a hazy horizon while a resplendent quetzal perches on a silver-beech branch. Thick fog fills the lower third of the frame with a knife-sharp upper edge, abruptly ending the mist against clear air. Sea spray hangs in the stillness, catching the first rays of the low sun. The bird's emerald back and crimson chest glow against the muted greens of the forest. Tiny droplets cling to fern fronds above the fog line. The sharp boundary between the opaque mist below and the transparent sky above creates a distinct visual separation. One dewdrop trembles on the tip of a nearby leaf.
