Damselfly on Reed Tip at Singapore Dawn in on a wind-scoured ridge in Singapore

Damselfly on Reed Tip at Singapore Dawn

by Willie Curtis

Raindrops rest on the sharp, green tip of a slender reed, glistening under the flat, gray light of a Singaporean dawn. A tiny damselfly rests precariously on the very point, its translucent wings folded tight against a body of iridescent blue and black. The background dissolves into a soft blur of wet, dark foliage and the misty outline of a ridge. Water beads form heavy spheres on the reed's surface, threatening to slide down. The insect's delicate legs grip the plant stem with visible tension. Tiny droplets scatter across the reed, catching the faint, diffused morning glow. at the edge is a single drop sliding slowly from the reed's edge.
