Komodo Dragon on Kenya Ridge at Dawn

A Komodo dragon occupies the center of a wind-scoured ridge under a sky heavy with wet season clouds. Deep shadow covers the foreground, where the reptile's scaly hide appears dark and textured against the dim ground. A sharp rim of pale morning light traces the curve of its back and the ridge behind it, separating the silhouette from the bright, cloudy horizon. The animal remains motionless in a patient, predatory stillness, its heavy tail resting on the uneven soil. Above, dramatic cloud formations roll across the sky, their undersides dark gray while the tops catch the first light. The contrast between the shadowed ridge and the bright edge of the sky emphasizes the dragon's bulk and the raw texture of its skin.
