Caterpillar on Reed Leaf Morning Light in at the edge of a reed bed near Munich

Caterpillar on Reed Leaf Morning Light

by Brock Medina

Early morning light strikes the horizon haze, casting a low, golden glow across the edge of a reed bed near Munich. A thick, green caterpillar with distinct black and white bands crawls along the serrated edge of a broad leaf. Low-hanging clouds diffuse the sky above, creating a soft, muted backdrop that contrasts with the sharp texture of the plant's surface. The leaf shows signs of seasonal transition, with yellowing veins and a slightly curled tip resting against the damp stem. Dew droplets rest on the leaf's underside, catching the faint sunlight. The insect's segmented body presses firmly against the rough plant fiber, its tiny legs gripping the uneven surface as it moves toward the center of the leaf. One droplet hangs precariously from the leaf tip, reflecting the pale sky above.
