Basalt Columns on Misty Austrian Coastline at Dusk in along a wave-cut shoreline in Austria

Basalt Columns on Misty Austrian Coastline at Dusk

by Abby Herring

Dark gray basalt columns rise vertically from the wet shoreline, their hexagonal forms sharp against the encroaching fog. The sky holds a dim, slate-blue tone as distant city lights begin to glow along the horizon, casting faint orange reflections on the slick rocks. Thick mist rests on the water and stone, softening the edges of the formation while a cool rim light traces the upper contours of the columns. The ground appears saturated and still, with no movement visible in the water or air. The hexagonal patterns repeat down the cliff face, creating a geometric rhythm that contrasts with the organic blur of the surrounding vapor. One dark shadow falls across the lower left corner of the rock face.
