Columnar Basalt Cliffs in Misty Moonlight in near Bishkek

Columnar Basalt Cliffs in Misty Moonlight

by Katya Maldonado

Vertical hexagonal basalt columns rise from the shadowed base of a steep cliff face near Bishkek. Thick mist rests on the rock, softening the sharp edges of the stone while the cold moonlight casts a pale blue glow across the wet surfaces. Layers of geological formations recede into the distance, showing immense depth and scale. The early autumn air is visible in the way the fog drifts between the columns, obscuring the upper reaches of the cliff. Rough textures of the stone contrast with the smooth, flowing veil of mist. A faint reflection of the moonlight glimmers on a damp patch at the base of the nearest column.
