Golden Hour Silhouette of Ukrainian Basalt Columns
by Ida Salinas
Geometric basalt columns rise in tight hexagonal clusters, their dark stone forms stark against the warm glow of the setting sun. Viewed from directly overhead, the ancient rock structures create a precise mosaic that dominates the frame. Below, thick ground fog fills the valleys, softening the transition between the rugged terrain and the braided river channels winding through the mist. The golden light catches the upper edges of the basalt, highlighting the rough, vertical texture of the stone while casting the inner faces into deep shadow. Early spring air keeps the fog low and dense, obscuring the river's path until it emerges as faint, silvery threads in the distance. The sharp angular lines of the columns contrast with the fluid, undefined shapes of the clouds drifting below. A thin line of white foam marks the edge where the river meets the misty bank.
