Midnight Basalt Columns Under Lighthouse Sweep

Charcoal-gray hexagonal basalt columns rise vertically from the churning surf along a rugged Vancouver coastline at midnight. A bright white lighthouse beam sweeps horizontally across the wet, jagged rock faces, leaving the surrounding cliffs in deep shadow. The light highlights the rough, wet texture of the stone and the white foam where waves crash against the base. Wind whips the water into a fine mist that drifts across the foreground. A dark piece of driftwood rests on the rocks beside the columns. The beam cuts across the vertical lines of the stone, ending abruptly against the dark ocean horizon.
