Golden Hour Basalt Columns Mumbai Coast in along a wave-cut shoreline near Mumbai

Golden Hour Basalt Columns Mumbai Coast

by Andrea Clayton

Warm firelight spills across a wall of hexagonal basalt columns rising from a wave-cut shoreline. The dry season air leaves the stone surfaces rough and textured, catching the low sun in sharp relief against the deepening blue sky. Dark water laps at the base of the geological formation, its surface broken by white foam where waves crash against the rock. The columns stand in tight vertical rows, their gray tones shifting to orange and amber where the light hits directly. Above, the sky remains perfectly clear, devoid of clouds, allowing the sun to sink toward the horizon without obstruction. The stillness of the weather-shaped stone contrasts with the gentle motion of the water at the bottom edge.
