Basalt Organ Pipes Dalmatian Shoreline Morning in along a wave-cut shoreline in Dalmatia

Basalt Organ Pipes Dalmatian Shoreline Morning

by Norman DeLeon

Dappled sunlight falls through a canopy of green leaves, casting shifting patches of bright yellow and deep shadow across vertical basalt columns. These hexagonal rock pillars rise abruptly from a wave-cut shoreline, their dark grey surfaces rough and weathered by salt spray. The water below acts as a perfect mirror, duplicating the jagged stone and the leafy overhang in a symmetrical reflection. A perfectly clear blue sky stretches above the cliff edge, untouched by clouds. The early summer foliage creates a textured frame of vibrant greens against the stark geological geometry. A small ripple near the water's edge distorts the mirrored image of the lowest column, breaking the symmetry with a thin line of white foam.
