Barracuda School Under Fractured Ice Blue Water

by Claire Gilliam

Cool blue water fills the frame beneath a fractured ice sheet, where a school of barracuda glides in synchronized motion. The surface above ripples gently, breaking the low sun's light into scattered shards that filter down through the dark polar depths. Suspended particles glitter like dust motes in the water column, catching the faint glow of the early spring thaw. The fish move with frozen clarity against the deep azure background, their silver bodies reflecting the dim horizon haze. Ice edges frame the top of the view, jagged and translucent, while the shallow depth of field blurs the distant darkness into a soft, otherworldly blue stillness. One silver scale catches a ray of light near the center.
